Retaliation Is Illegal
Most laws giving rights to agricultural workers prohibit employers from discriminating against any worker who complains or files a lawsuit against him/her. If your employer fires you, refuses to hire you, or lowers your wages because you ask for or demand your rights, you can get a court order stopping the action, restoring your job and awarding you money damages.
To help you win in court, it is important to have witnesses or proof that your employer acted because you asked for your rights. If you think your employer will discriminate against you, make sure you take one or two friends when you talk to your employer. Your friends can be your witnesses in court and support your version of the story.
